Small Patio Layouts by Size: 6×8, 8×10 and 10×12 Floor Plans
Space planning guide · Published by Outdoor Nook, which makes and sells the recliners shown
Most small-patio advice stops at “measure your space.” This guide does the measuring for you: two seating plans each for 6×8, 8×10 and 10×12 ft patios, with the arithmetic shown, so you know what fits before you order.
Every figure comes from the size charts on our product pages. It is part of our Small Patios & Balconies guide.

1. How we drew these plans
Two numbers matter: width, and depth when fully reclined. Our recliners have a single full-recline position, so we plan for the longest footprint.
Our side tables are 18 in square (wicker) or 20.2–20.5 in (aluminum). The Newport chart shows the front only, so call us for its depths.
The Keywest is our most compact recliner: 27.55 inches wide and 29.9 inches deep upright, the smallest upright footprint in the range. The Huntington is about the same width (27.5 in). Fully reclined, the Keywest needs 67 inches front to back, like the Malibu II; the Huntington and Shoreline need 64.5.
In each plan the chairs sit along the shorter wall, facing down the longer side. For a walkway we use our rule of thumb of about 3 feet, a suggestion rather than a product spec. For wall and swivel clearance, see How Much Space Does an Outdoor Recliner Need?.
2. A 6×8 ft patio (72 × 96 in): two seats, no table between
Two compact recliners fit across 72 inches. A side table between them does not.
6×8 arithmetic, computed from our size charts
- Plan A, two Keywests side by side: 72 in − 55.1 in = 16.9 in to spare across. 96 in − 67 in reclined = 29 in clear in front. With both chairs upright, that grows to 66.1 in (96 − 29.9).
- Plan A with two Huntingtons: 72 − 55 = 17 in across, and 96 − 64.5 = 31.5 in in front when reclined.
- Why no side table: two Keywests plus an 18 in table come to 73.1 in, 1.1 in more than the 72 in wall. Two Huntingtons with their 20.5 in table are 3.5 in over.
- Plan B, a reclining loveseat: the Keywest loveseat is 53 in wide and 65 in fully reclined. 72 − 53 = 19 in across, 96 − 65 = 31 in in front. The Huntington loveseat (53.1 in wide, 64 in reclined) leaves 18.9 in and 32 in.
The honest limit: neither plan leaves a full 3-ft walkway in front of the reclined seats. That is fine on a balcony you step onto, less so on a patio people cross. Each loveseat seat reclines independently.
For a walk-through space, one Keywest leaves 72 − 27.55 = 44.45 in beside it. Reclining Loveseat vs. Two Recliners compares the two-seat options.
“unfortunately too large for our tiny patio”
That buyer used the 14-day return. Taping the footprint first is quicker.

3. An 8×10 ft patio (96 × 120 in): the side table fits
Two recliners and a side table fit, with room to walk in front.
| Plan A by model | Across 96 in | Spare | In front, reclined (of 120 in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keywest + 18 in table | 73.1 in | 22.9 in | 53 in |
| Huntington + 20.5 in table | 75.5 in | 20.5 in | 55.5 in |
| Shoreline + 20.2 in table | 78 in | 18 in | 55.5 in |
| Newport + 18 in table | 79.4 in | 16.6 in | Ask us |
| Malibu II + 18 in table | 82.4 in | 13.6 in | 53 in |
Computed from our size charts. Every model leaves at least 53 in in front when reclined, room for a 3-ft walkway.
8×10 Plan B, computed from our size charts
- Plan B, loveseat with a side table: Keywest loveseat 53 in + 18 in table = 71 in. 96 − 71 = 25 in across. 120 − 65 = 55 in in front when reclined.
- Malibu II or Newport loveseat: 56.7 + 18 = 74.7 in, leaving 21.3 in. 120 − 67 = 53 in in front.
- Huntington loveseat: 53.1 + 20.5 = 73.6 in, leaving 22.4 in. 120 − 64 = 56 in in front.
Plan A gives two chairs that swivel and glide independently. Plan B keeps both seats square to the view.
“a perfect fit between our chairs”

4. A 10×12 ft patio (120 × 144 in): room for bigger chairs or a third seat
At ten feet you can choose roomier chairs with a walkway beside them, or add a third seat.
| Plan A: pair + table + 3-ft walkway | Across 120 in | Spare |
|---|---|---|
| Keywest | 73.1 + 36 = 109.1 in | 10.9 in |
| Huntington | 75.5 + 36 = 111.5 in | 8.5 in |
| Shoreline | 78 + 36 = 114 in | 6 in |
| Newport | 79.4 + 36 = 115.4 in | 4.6 in |
| Malibu II | 82.4 + 36 = 118.4 in | 1.6 in |
Computed from our size charts. In front, 144 − 67 = 77 in stays clear when reclined. With only 1.6 in spare, measure your real walls before choosing the Malibu II.
10×12 Plan B, three seats, computed from our size charts
- Keywest loveseat + 18 in table + one Keywest recliner: 53 + 18 + 27.55 = 98.55 in. 120 − 98.55 = 21.45 in to spare.
- Huntington loveseat + 20.5 in table + one Huntington recliner: 53.1 + 20.5 + 27.5 = 101.1 in, leaving 18.9 in.
- Malibu II loveseat + 18 in table + one Malibu II recliner: 56.7 + 18 + 32.2 = 106.9 in, leaving 13.1 in.
Plan B suits a couple who want a guest seat. The deepest piece reclines to 67 in, so 77 in stays clear in front.

5. Check your own space against the plan
Tape the plan on the floor at full size and check what the drawings can't show:
- Where the door is. If it opens onto the short wall, turn the plan.
- Posts, steps and planters. Subtract them from the spare inches.
- Swivel room. Two chairs pushed together can't turn freely.
